March 23, 2020 Corona Update

As the situation with the Covid -19 virus continues to evolve, we are going to make some changes in the way we practice, to maximize your safety and the safety of our work environment.

First, we have decided to postpone all physicals until June.  This will curtail “elective” visits to our office and reduce the number of patients here at any given time.  If you have a physical scheduled, you do not need to do anything.  Our staff will call you to reschedule.

Second, the federal government, state government, and commercial insurance companies have approved payments for “Tele-health” medical visits.  This will allow those patients who are interested to have a “virtual” video appointment with us. We can use these appointments for follow up of medical issues such as diabetes, hypertension, chronic infections, etc.   We can also deal with some urgent conditions such as an upper respiratory infection or acute injuries.

Third, we will be in the office during normal hours for patients who need to be seen. We anticipate that the number of patients who come in will be much smaller over the next few weeks.

Regarding the Tele-Health appointments:  If you have a regular appointment scheduled, we will call you to see if you would like to make it a virtual video appointment.  This can be done either on Face Time if you have an Apple device or on a platform called Zoom if you want to use a regular computer.  You can also call to schedule a Tele-health appointment.

Don’t Fret – even if you are not computer savvy these are both easy to use and we will walk you through it.  Elaine Crain will be sending an email which gives you some instructions about Zoom, but we can also call you by phone at the time of your appointment and get you set up.  This is a difficult time for all of us, but if we do our best to stay safe and follow the instructions of the authorities, we have a good chance of getting out of this sooner rather than later.  Please let us know what we can do to help.

Severna Park Medical Associates sends out information pertinent to our patients’ health, announcements of closings, and office changes. Our patients can now use email, rather than a phone call, to communicate non-urgent information with us. We can also send lab results and other information to patients directly.
